The glass-half metaphor is bullshit and we all know it, but only the pessimist has the balls to admit it.

Looking back, I think that was the day I became my own person, the day I truly began to separate from my parents and their values.

I could call that independent thinking and the action that went with it being educated, but no. I was scared, not thinking at all.

If you were starving and I offered you a choice between rotted meat and moldy bread and you took the moldy bread, then I could say I just gave you what you wanted.
